English Department II
Founded in 1953, English Department was subdivided into two sections in July 2003, namely, English Department I and English Department II. English Department I (3rd-4th year teaching) is in charge of the teaching and administration of the senior and postgraduate programs.
English Department II has a teachers' team with an optimized structure of professional titles. Department II currently has Twenty-six professionals, of whom Ten are professors, Fourteen are associate professors, and Two are lecturers. There is One Lead Professor, One Renowned Teacher at the provincial level, Fifteen university-level postgraduate tutors, Three college-level postgraduate tutors, One Ph.D. holder, 4 Ph.D. candidates, and 17 postgraduates. There are Two foreign teachers from the USA and Belgium .
In the last three years, American Literature, a research course offered by Department II was assessed as a Course of Excellence at the provincial level. Two courses in Department II were named as University Model Courses. Department II offers Four Courses of Excellence and Three multi-media online courses at the college level. In December 2006, American Literature and Advanced Reading were accepted as the seventh key programs at the university level. Department II has undertaken Five research projects at the provincial level, One research project at the university level, Two projects in foreign language teaching reforms at the university level, and participated in Two research projects at the national level. Department II has published over Seventy academic articles, more than Fifty academic books, translated works, and textbooks.
English Department II has developed a style of hardworking. Over the past decades, the teachers in Department II have taken on heavy responsibilities, acting as interpreters and translators, in many public affairs, and were praised by the provincial and municipal leaders. T he teachers in Department II play a positive role in the public service, with more than Twenty awarded certificates of PETS (level 3-5) examiner, Cambridge Young Learners English examiner, and International Oral Test Examiner of Trinity College, London . Having undertaken some important tests, Department I has won honors for Shenyang Normal University .
